England v Tonga Rugby League Test Series

Started by: Owd Codger (3126)

What has Coach Shaun Wane got against former and present inform Wigan players like Charnley, Marshall, Peace-Paul, Smithies, even Ryan Sutton and his treatment of Farrell in yesterdays game was a disgrace.

And how on earth could Noble select Ashton as the MOM after he bombed a try and dropped another ball when the best England players were Hill, Lewis, Newman and Smith while Welsby had a poor game by his standards.

And based on his form in the last NRL season, Bateman should never have consider for selection as he has been a pale shadow ot the player when first signed by Wigan.

Good job Tonga have been poor compared to their last visit or else we would be up against it!

After only having Liam Farrell as the 18th man for the first test, a substitution for only four minutes of the second test and now not selecting him at all for the third test, Shaun Wane says that he has to give all members of his original squad a fair chance of playing in the test series.

Sorry Shaun, but the way Liam Farrell is disrespectful as far as I am concerned!

You know I never thought of Wane as a coach and a pleasant person…not for me IMO

Lam was even doing well as Head Coach until Covid hit the club coupled with the cost involved of moving the club HQ to Robin Park Area.

I was critical of the appointment of Matty Peet as Head Coach, but I now have to hold my hands up and admit I was wrong as he is not only doing well on the Coaching side and unlike Wane appears to have no favourites or any dislike of individual players which has led to a better team spirit within the club.

And he is more pleasant as well!

Correct OC…all round a more thoughtful guy…IMO…you only have to listen to their interviews when he talks about pathways and values etc

Although successful,I sometimes found Wanes brand of rugby hard to watch at times.Good players too,who didn’t fit the system were overlooked or moved on.
There are a few clips doing the rounds, that show the players enjoying each other’s company and that is showing on the field.
Like a lot of people,I too was sceptical of Matt Peets appointment.Glad to be wrong, well done Matt
Btw,is it coincidence that Harrys kicking has improved now that Lee Briers is on the scene(all be it temporarily)

Joe Maplin

From what I understand, it is former Rugby Union International Paul Grayson who has helped to improve the kicking of Harry Smith!

Having watched the 3 match series against Tonga , i have to say i was not overly impressed with the standard from the Tongan's On that basis i cannot yet draw any conclusion as to wether it was as good a series as Wayne might have liked , yes they won 3-0 but one cannot say hand on heart it was exciting to watch ?? But I did enjoy watching New Zealand thrash Australia 30-0 in a return match , and to add the aussie's fielded their strongest team to boot . But as for England i feel we are still quite a fair way away just yet .Though this is just my opinion init !!
